DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, "For Special RR Service" marked mvt and dial, 21J, 16S, white gold-filled OF Hamilton Model 5 recase, white enamel DS dial with marginal minutes, time zone hands, fully capped lever escapement, gilt mvt screws, ornate two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#741484. The "For Special RR Service" movement marking is extremely rare among 16 size Hamilton production, the very few examples of this watch we have encountered with this movement marking have fallen within a span of just 25 serial numbers (741461 to 741485) that are listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been sold to watch inspector J.W. Forsinger of Chicago, Illinois in early 1910. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good two-tone color, some circular rub around barrel bridge plate screw near s#, some small marring tight around barrel bridge plate screw near Double Roller marking and also tight around balance cock screw; nearly flawless dial appears to have had its outer chapter replaced with an identical style to the original as is evidenced by a small sliver of unevenness to lower portion of seconds-register's seating, otherwise cosmetically superb with only a few micro-fine scratches; excellent hands; case shows very little wear, few small scratches, no dents or dings; tight bow, crown shows very little wear; clean plastic crystal.
ESTIMATE: $2000 - $3000
